In the class of L/L Writing we started a new topic, Short Stories. When we finished with all the "theory" we were asked to write a short story but the story should end with the sentence "That was the last time she/he ever saw them". It should be of about 450-600 words.
The best opportunity,
the worse news
It was a sunny day, Jill, John
and Sarah were on the beach. The waves, the sound of the wind, it was all
beautiful. Many people were surfing and playing.
Jill saw some people surfing
and she wanted to surf, as she knew that Sarah knew how to surf she asked Sarah:
"Sarah, you had been surfing
since you were ten years old, right?"
"Yes", answered
Sarah, "Why are you asking that?"
"I want to surf, so if
you are a professional you can teach me", said Jill
"You want to surf?!",
shouted John
"Yes, I think that is a
beautiful sport", answered Jill
"Ok, if you want me to
teach you, you will need the necessary equipment", said Jill
"If I have the equipment,
you are going to teach me?", asked Jill
"Yes, I am going to teach
you...", Sarah said tired
"Yes! I'm going to learn
how to surf!", exclaimed Jill
Jill was so excited that she
ran to buy her new equipment. When she returned, Sarah was prepared to teach
Jill how to surf. Meanwhile, John and Tom were playing volleyball.
"Surf is not so easy, we
will need three or four days to learn the basic things of surfing", warned
Sarah
"I don't care, I want to
learn how to surf a wave", said Jill
The first day wasn't so good,
Jill fell down many times but Sarah told Jill that the next day they were going
to continue trying.
When Sarah arrived at her
house, she received a call from her trainer.
"Hi Sarah, how are
you?", started Paul
"I'm very well, you know
what? today I taught my friend some things about surfing", said Sarah
"Really?", shouted
Paul, "I think you used the same words I used when taught you"
"Well, I used some words
but not every word", said Sarah
"Ok, I called you because
you entered to the competition of surfing!", exclaimed Paul
"That is awesome!", shouted
Sarah, "And where it is?"
"It is on Hawaii, it is
very far but it is a very good opportunity", answered Paul
"On Hawaii?",
exclaimed Sarah, "When? How many days?"
"Calm down! We are going
tomorrow to the airport, ten hours of travel and if you pass to the final round
you are going to be there for two years", said Paul
"Two years?!", shouted Sarah stopping the
call
She was very nervous, she
didn't want to go there for two years, she wanted to be with her family, with
her friends and at her home. She knew that it was an excellent opportunity and
that maybe she will never have another like this one so she accepted, she
called Paul and she told him that she was going there.
The next day she went to the
beach.
"Hi Jill, hi John",
Sarah greeted her friend with a sad face
"What happened to
you?", asked John
"I entered to the surf
competition", answered Sarah
"And why are you sad.
They are very good news", said Jill
"Yes, but it is for two
years", exclaimed Sarah
"What? For two
years?", shouted Jill
"Yes and I am leaving
tomorrow", asked Sarah
"And who is going to
teach me how to surf?", asked Jill
"I'm sorry Jill, but it's
a very good opportunity and I can't throw it away", answered Sarah
Sarah was very sad, she knew
that Jill wanted to learn to surf but Sarah had to leave, so she went away and
went to her house. That was the last time she ever saw them.
