The Edukators

The movie "The Edukators" directed by Hans Weingartner tells the story of a group of friends that try to make justice against capitalism. That is why for the class of Thinking Skills we saw this movie and then we made a presentation about it. In the presentation, we included our opinion about some aspects of the movie and then we chose an article about the topic "Global wealth distribution" to discuss it.

The presentation include the following questions:

  • What does the title The edukators mean and what is it that the edukators do?
  • Education and justice. Compare the way in which the State educates its citizens with the edukators’ methods. Do you think one is better than the other?
  • Do you think schools help build a particular morality or ethics? Do you think it is its duty to do so?
  • Consider the relationship between parents and children, teachers, and students. Do you think experience is enough to determine who educates whom and what ought to be taught? How does the movie deal with the dilemma “youth vs. experience”?
  • At one point in the movie, Hardenberg says to Jan:
  • “My dad used to say that if you're under 30 and you're not a liberal, you have no heart, and if you're over 30 and you're still a liberal, you have no brain.”
  • What does he mean? Do you agree?
